The Barrow-In-Furness 50 Mile Ultra Marathon or BIF 50 will take runners on an epic adventure around the Furness area. Starting on the coastal shore of Walney Island, the route heads north towards Earnse bay and then cuts across to the east side of the island where runners will then pass through the village of North Scale.

From North Scale the route then heads down Walney promenade and leaves the island to follow the Cumbrian Coastal Way.

At Kirkby in Furness the course heads up on to Kirkby Moor and picks up the Cumbria Way that will take runners down into Ulverston.

After Ulverston we head through Bardsea and up on to Birkrigg Common. The trail heads through various villages before reaching the ruins of Furness Abbey. From the Abbey we then head out to the coast and pick up the "Old Line" coastal trail which brings runners back into Barrow.

Finally runners will follow the streets and roads that lead back over to Walney Island and back to Walney School.

This is mainly a Trail Ultra designed to bring a variety of terrains to runners whilst offering a challenging but exciting course. There is amazing scenery and beautiful landscapes such as the beaches of Earse bay and Roanhead. The rolling hills of Kirkby Moor and the great trails of Birkrigg Common.

There will be 7 checkpoints throughout the course and these will be well stocked with a variety of snacks, sweet & savoury, and have coke and juice available too.

There will be a 15 hour cut-off time for this event and proress will be assessed at each checkpoint as well. Runners will be required to check in with checkpoint marshals at each aid station so that we can track your progress around the course.

All finishers will receive a bespoke BIF 50 medal, technical t-shirt and race goody bag.
