Barrow Coastal Marathon
Rampside Village Hall
Start Time: 9 am
Registration Opens: 7:30 am
The Barrow Coastal Marathon is a 2 lap course featuring one of Barrow's longest coastal paths, the "Old Line" trail.
The race starts from Rampside Village hall and follows a grassy trail footpath up towards Barrow's Gas Terminal. From there the route passes through a wooded section before joining the coastal path and heading towards the town.
The route leaves the coastal path for a short time and passes through an urban part of the town. The first checkpoint is located at 4.1 miles and will be clearly visible from the course.
After leaving the checkpoint, runners re-join the coastal path and head towards Barrow Quay side, close to morrisons supermarket. This is where the turnaround point is.
Runners then re-trace their steps back through the checkpoint and towards the gas terminal again. This time however, instead of turning left to go through the wooded section, runners will continue on the coastal path following it all the way to the end. Runners will emerge near a pub called the concle inn.
From the pub, runners will head along the causeway that leads to Roa Island. Upon reaching the lifeboat station on Roa Island, runners turnaround and then follow the footpath / road as it leads back to the Village hall for the completion of the first lap.
For those doing 5km, 10 km distances, there will be signage in place to direct you so that you are only the shorter distance and not the full course.
Cut off time for the event is 6 hours..
At the aid stations there will be a variety of snacks and drinks including coke, squash, crisps, biscuits, cake, chocolate, vegan snacks and water. Each finisher will receive a unique medal and race goody bag.
